[ Jen shook her head faintly. ] I'm the one that bought the dumb hat. [ so, even if Lina considers herself as having made an error, Jen enabled it. they're both idiots. and yet. ] Would you listen to me if I told you that you couldn't? [ she's not uncovering her face, which makes it easier to ask. why did she ask? ugh. ]

[not for a fucking second, but that's not the point. once she's sure that Jen's going to be okay, Lina leaves her there to duck into her room.]

[when she comes back, she's wearing that party animal tank top that she's apparently just going to wear everywhere now. it's big on her, so she's very clearly not wearing a bra underneath it, and the actual underwear status is questionable at best, but she's not nude anymore and that's the point.]

It was a really good idea for a joke. I just think I kind of fucked up the execution.

[ yeah, Jen figured she wasn't going to get an answer out of that. maybe it would have been better if she had bit her tongue on the way down. not in an awful way; just enough to shut herself up. by the time Lina is back, Jen has picked herself up off the floor and was hunched over the kitchen island. her robot hand still clenched the cold mass to her face but Jen had left her eyes free because she had assumed that Lina would do a little better than just putting underwear on. somehow? this was worse, because now Jen's imagination has fuel. and her tongue is still capable of getting away from her. and she's also staring. ] Maybe the shirt would have been a good idea. Or an apron. [ no, she genuinely has no idea that's A Thing people are into. well. walking around in oversized shirts that don't look like they belong to you, yes. naked aprons? no. ]

[Lina wants to say something, but she can see damn well where Jen's eyes are going and, in stark contrast to the vibe she was giving off when she'd started this whole ill-advised joke, she hangs back for a second. then she sort of... sneaks past Jen to get back to the stove.]

Yeah, maybe. But now you know what... all of this looks like. And you can't unsee it. [she leans forward and stirs the pot a little more, thinking about the apron idea as she does. it's not bad, but it definitely wouldn't be much better. she has a feeling Jen is imagining it, too.] So I guess now we just leveled up as roommates. Or leveled down.

I didn't look too close. [ she says quickly, like a lying liar who lies. ] I guess... that part's up to you. [ Jen hissed, shifting the ice around. ] Heh. I still can't believe you did that. It's not like... I dared you to.

[breakingvoice]

Uh huh.

[she'll let it slide, though. it's not something she wants to push back against right now. she'll need enough alcohol for both of them to push it, and who even knows what would happen between two drunk lesbians, one of whom has definitely already seen way more of the other than expected? it would be chaos.]

You bought me the hat! What, was I not gonna follow through? And waste your money?

[ there's literally no telling what would happen if Jen got drunk enough for that because it's never happened. even having a few drinks in celebration hasn't gotten her in trouble with her mouth any more than normal. ] [ gesturing, and flustered. this is pretty much Jen's state of being right now. Lina had a point. ] To wear it with ... whatever you want to wear in the kitchen! Or warn me first so I can be prepared! [ prepared how, Jen? ] B-Besides. What if you splashed something on yourself?

Then I'd burn my tit.

[she sounds remarkably casual about it for somebody who absolutely did not put as much thought into the idea as it may seem. the day Lina Geteilt thinks something through is the day the world ends.]

I guess it's a good thing I didn't. Do you want extra? I can give you my portion since you lost some blood. [a beat.] Well, we know where the blood is.

[ the absurdity of all that hits Jen hard and she can't help but laugh, lowering the towel in the process. yeah, they know where the blood is. there's a small spot on her lip mirrored on the fabric but an even bigger one nearby that she doesn't notice. just how Jen doesn't feel the trickle from one of her nostrils thanks to the numbness. ]

Holy shit, I'm not that funny.

[but at least Jen can laugh while she's no doubt in a pretty huge amount of pain. between this and her dumb pun that also got Jen rolling, she might be building a more positive opinion of herself! weird.]

Are you gonna answer the question? [since the burner's still off, she walks over to her roommate and puts a hand on the towel near hers, but definitely not on top of Jen's hand or anything.] Like, for real. Do you have a concussion or something?

[look, she is trying.]

[ Jen opens her eyes to see and feel Lina that close to her. her laughing tapers off pretty quick. ] Ahah... I know what a concussion tastes like. [ ... ] Feels. Like.

[ she sticks her tongue up to lick the small cut but ends up coming into contact with something far warmer and wetter than anticipated. Jen looks down after dabbing at her lip and her eyes go wide at the blood. ] I, uh. On second thought m-maybe I should lay down.

[breakingvoice]

Yeah. You should. Go lie down somewhere, I'll bring your food out to you and... shit, do you have any bandages for stuff like this? I can go out and get you some if you don't.

[she's actually concerned about Jen's wellbeing. weird. though it is kind of her fault, isn't it? like, directly. mm. she doesn't like the way that tastes. feels. despite the situation, and because she can't help but find what brought them there a little, funny, she laughs under her breath and shakes her head.]

[ Jen pushes the towel back against her face. she goes for an indignant sound but it just sounds like a muffled snort. okay, that, too, was a little funny. ] Pfft! And you said I was being unfair? [ yes, she remembered that comment. ] I'll just lay down 'til it stops. Just need a couple tissues and a butterfly bandage. [ Jen shifts herself to standing straight and gestures with her robot hand toward the bathroom. ] First aid kit definitely has those.

We can talk about how we're both objectively hot when you don't look like a Tarantino movie.

[she pulls herself away from Jen, then gives her a pleading sort of look and gestures towards the couch. and then she's off to the bathroom to get enough supplies to actually care for her roommate. it doesn't take long, but when she gets back with tissues and a butterfly bandage, like instructed, she damn well hopes Jen has gotten horizontal.]

[ Jen was about to quip something back about that wasn't what she said but it really was kind of implied. drat. yes, by the time Lina has retrieved supplies Jen is lounging on the couch with a pillow under her neck and head tilted back. hopefully her roommate has considered the angle of her approach because she doesn't have a lot of options on where she's looking in that position. ]

[from this angle, Jen should be able to tell that Lina has definitely not put on any other clothing outside of the shirt, and clearly this is not a thing that Lina considered. oh well. she steps to the side, just out of her roommate's direct line of sight but still in her peripherals, and hands her what she brought out.]

Fix your nose and I'll get your dinner. And try not to think about any more cute girls. I'm the anime caricature here.

[ Jen stretches out to put the ice pack down on the table but in doing so she nearly stumbles again. this isn't her fault, though. ] Are you just wearing the — you know? Forget I asked. [ she will just. busy herself with stuffing two halves of a tissue up her nose and then tape her lip together. if only Jen could stitch her whole mouth shut while she was at it. ]

Yes.

[she says it casually, rolling her eyes as she walks away. from the kitchen, she starts speaking more loudly.]

I'm not done with my laundry yet and this is all I have right now. [a lie. not a huge one, but still a lie.] I was really bad at planning this whole thing out and I get it. Not like you've never seen one before.

[after making sure the stew is still warm enough, which it absolutely is, she brings in a bigger bowl than she expected for Jen. it's got beef that's ready to fall apart in Jen's mouth, carrots and peas and big chunks of potato all perfectly prepared, and some excellently seasoned broth if Lina does say so herself.]

[ she doesn't know what purpose it serves to try and figure out Lina's intent. or even her way of thinking. she knew today Jen would be coming home and could have just planned at least around that for her laundry, if nothing else, but. ] I guess at least the hat came at the right time. [ she can't smell the food anymore, which is criminal for how good it looks. that, more than anything else, is putting a huge damper in her appetite. ]

[yeah, weird, it's almost like she planned everything exactly as she wanted and the only unintended part was the nose thing. but that would obviously never occur to Lina.]

Guess so. If we're going to start taking these jokes seriously, I really need to be careful about what I say, huh?

[or where she stands. she is at least giving Jen the courtesy of still staying out of her direct line of sight.]

Same here. [ finally feeling less light-headed, Jen slowly pushes herself into a sitting position. ] I'm not going to underestimate your courage anytime soon. If I stepped out of the bathroom after a shower to look for a towel or something and you spotted me even accidentally, I'd pretty much wig out.

Yeah, well.

[she doesn't really know what to say to that, but she's glad Jen is sitting up, at least. give her a few minutes of awkwardly standing around and maybe she'll join her? hm. actually, bad idea. she'll just keep standing there instead.]

I stopped having shame a while ago. And you don't have anything to be ashamed about either.

[which she means absolutely sincerely, even though she'll never know what it's like to live with a prosthesis and is probably saying some dumb shit that will make her wish she'd also sewn her mouth shut.]

[ yeah, Jen... doesn't agree with that last bit. it's probably obvious in the way she just ignores commenting on it at first in favor of picking up the bowl and spoon. ] Mmn. Must feel nice. [ she takes her first couple of bites rather quickly. it's... good. she nods. but right now the texture has more impact than actual flavor. ]

[yeah, she. expected as much. mm. great. good work, Lina, you stupid bitch. she stands there and looks down at the floor without saying much for a moment. then she walks away, off to her room, mumbling something about how she'll be right back.]

[it only takes her a couple minutes, but she's wearing a bra and underwear and actual shorts when she returns. it all looks clean. she doesn't have an exit strategy for fucking up like that, so she just kind of. keeps standing there. she should get some food for herself, but it doesn't seem right, right now.]

[ there's no objection this time. but she is surprised when Lina re-emerges with an apology. and more clothes. the bowl? almost completely empty. with no real taste to motivate her to take her time, Jen just downed it like she hadn't eaten in days. there's no wasting a meal in her hands no matter how awkward the air around it is. ] It's alright. [ whatever it was Lina was apologizing for, anyway. the comment, the plan, or everything. it'd be fine. in time. Jen raised her bowl slightly. ] Thanks, by the way. It's good.
