[ Yin frowned hard. it takes a lot of self-control to keep from commenting on that. what better way to deflect than to focus on a more recent pain? ]

She move out already?

Yeah, she's long gone.

[Vera sighs, sinking back against the couch.]

Whatever, I'm used to being alone.

So, is the over-size shirt yours, or hers? [ yeah, she noticed. ]

[The heiress hugs her knees to her chest.]

[ Yin made a disapproving face. ] You were dating for... what? A month? Two?

Almost four. We've been keeping it a secret.

Really? Heh. Damn. I guess I was too slow.

[ for what? she doesn't explain. instead she just turns and heads on toward the doors to figure out which room was Vera's and which was Vic's. ]

[And she'll be surprised to find there is only one bedroom. The other room in the hallway is filled with gym equipment.]

We tried not to be too touchy in public, have people think we're good friends and not... good friends.

Uh-huh. Just gals being pals, right? [ she can spot the occupied room easy enough but the gym equipment surprises her. ] I know how...

[She sits up on the couch to try and see what Yin is seeing.]

Ugh. You can't tell me to sit down then wander off like that.

The work-out room! [ Yin sticks her head into it, but raises her voice. ] I mean, this looks more like my jam than either of you. What gives?

They were mostly for Vic, I don't really know how half of them work. I pretty much just use the treadmill and some stuff for my arms and back.

The book nerd? I thought she looked a little more buff when I last saw her. Guess that explains it.

[ Yin steps into it and starts to get a closer look at the equipment. mostly checking if it was new or well-used and debating testing it out for herself. she picks up a dumbbell with her right hand and flexes it a few times. easy. ]

She... wanted to be in the Olympics.

[She wrings her hands in her lap, before getting up with a sigh and going into the kitchen to pour herself another drink.]

Seriously? Hah! [ there's some more clanging as she set the piece down and sat down on a bench. ] So is she just gonna leave it here? I mean, if you're not gonna use it...

[Sorry, Yin, she's not answering that. She's too busy sitting at the kitchen table with her head buried in her arms.]

[ the silence is worrisome, so a few moments later she's coming back out of the side room and into the kitchen. ] Starting to feel it, yet?

I dunno... I guess so.

[She sits up a bit, finishing off the meager glass she had poured for herself earlier.]

Take off your shirt.

Huh? Why would I do that?

Because it's hers and you won't need it anymore.

[She wants to need it. It's warm, and comfy, and smells like her. How is she supposed to throw that away?]
